Glenwood “Earl” Jackson

June 2, 1942 ~ September 27, 2016

ROCKY MOUNT - Glenwood "Earl" Jackson, age 74, passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2016. Born in Nash County, NC on June 2, 1942, he was the son of the late Herman Parker and Annie Sykes Jackson. He was also preceded in death by his three brothers, Louis, Julian, and Wilbur Jackson and two sisters, Louise J. Puckett and Barbara Jackson. Earl was a graduate of Spring Hope High School and obtained his Automotive Degree from Wilson Tech. He would later own and operate Jackson's Garage until his retirement after 40 years. During his career he was actively involved in the Independent Garage Owners of North Carolina in which he remained a member and served as a past president. In his spare time, Earl was an active outdoorsman and a member and past president of the Red F Hunting Club in North Hampton County. He was also a dedicated servant to his Lord and Savior through Calvary Baptist Church. His dedication to his faith led him to becoming a Deacon within his church and many of his church family members will always remember him for his smile as he regularly greeted and welcomed them every Sunday. Known for his fun-loving and giving personality, children nicknamed him the "Candy Man" for his joy of handing out candy at Sunday service. In addition, he was also a member of the Oak Level Ruritan Club. Having never met a stranger, Earl was a dear friend to many and was a dedicated family man, always providing love and support to those he loved, especially his family whom was the center of his life. Earl leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Margaret Louise Cooke Jackson; two daughters, Deanna Lynn Jackson of Rocky Mount and Melonie Elaine J. Stanger and her husband, Ken, of Atlanta, GA; and his granddaughter Dakota Rose Stanger. He is also survived by his two sisters, Nelda J. Gretchin Stallings and her husband, Bill, of Norfolk, VA and Mary Ruth J. Crawley and her husband, Ed, of Wilson; a brother-in-law, Larry Cook and his wife, Sandra, of Tarboro; and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Brandon Dees officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends and relatives Friday, September 30, 2016 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services.   1. Earl was one of the finest people I ever met, I have rented from him for years and have never had anyone be nicer to me and my wife we will miss him

  2. I met Earl in the mid to late 70’s & knew from the moment I met him he was a gentleman & man who cared about the right things in life. I considered him a friend & anyone who knew him could tell you about what a hard working man he was. I hope the family will feel blessed & loved by the Lord in this time of sadness.
