Gladys Speight Durham

September 2, 1930 ~ August 27, 2014

Gladys Speight Durham, 83 was welcomed by her Savior face to face on August 27, 2014. She was born in Wilson County on September 2, 1930 to Emma and Guy Speight. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 63 years Rev. Robert J. Durham and her great grandson Ayden Pryce Williams. Gladys lived a life characterized by a spirit of service and giving that instilled confidence, trust, and admiration in all those who knew and loved her. She was a charter member of Grace Free Will Baptist Church where she served faithfully for many years. She worked for Hardees Food Systems and MBM where she made lasting friendships. She will leave her loving legacy to be carried on in the lives of her children: daughters Linda Pulliam and her husband, Charles of Apex, NC; Sandra Sorie and her husband, Ricky of Enfield, NC and Cheryl Pulliam and her husband, Johnny of Graham, NC. Her testimony to Christ will be carried to the next generation by her grandchildren: Charlie (Amy), Ashley (Dash), Blake (Kelly), Tyler (Andrea), Jamie (Derek) and Erica (Josh). She is also survived by 11 great grandchildren, a brother Wayne Speight and his wife Carolyn. She will be greatly missed by all her family who loved her so very much. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 2:00pm at Wheeler Woodlief Funeral Home with Rev. Ricky Sorie and Rev. Johnny Hudson officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.   9. I was so saddened to hear of Miss Gladys’ death. She was a wonderful lady. I had the pleasure of working with Miss Gladys at Hardee’s and will always remember her as a sweet, but feisty lady. My life is richer having known her. I know how much you all will miss her. She often spoke of how proud she was of her family.   10. I always loved seeing Miss Gladys around the halls at MBM. She was a bright spot in my day! She always had a kind word and a smile for everyone. Sorry to hear of her passing but thankful I know she’s in Heaven and I’ll see her again one day.
