ROCKY MOUNT - Gladys Davis (Dickie) Lewis age 96 passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2018. Born in Chesterfield County, Virginia on October 29, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Mena Denton Davis. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Cecil Allen Lewis; sister Elsie Davis Ezzell; brothers Wade Davis, Hilton Davis, and infant Milton Davis.
After graduating from Rocky Mount High School, she went to work at the Ricks Hotel where she met Cecil who also worked there. After enlisting in the Army, they were married on April 9, 1942, while he was stationed in New Orleans, LA. After Cecil's discharge they returned to Rocky Mount, NC to make their home. She was a stay at home Mom until the mid-sixties when she went to work for Ruby Blyth at Public Office.
She was a Charter Member of West Haven Presbyterian Church and attended faithfully until her health declined and she was unable to attend.
Her family was her greatest love. Gladys is survived by her children Cecil Allen Lewis, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of The Villages, FL; Carolyn Lewis Allsbrook and her husband John of Rocky Mount, NC; James Milton (Jim) Lewis and his wife Teresa of Mount Airy, NC; grandchildren Melissa Allsbrook Koehler of Marietta, GA, Joseph Allen (Joey) Allsbrook of High Point, NC, Alexander Neville (Alec) Lewis of Chicago, IL, Stephen Davis Lewis of Tampa, FL; great grandchildren Austin Robert Koehler of Marietta, GA, and Emily Caroline (Emmy) Koehler of Marietta, GA; and brother Montgomery Lawrence (Monty) Davis and his wife Helen of Virginia Beach, VA; and many nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service and celebration of her life, officiated by the Rev. Sam Codington, will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
