ROCKY MOUNT - George Warren Wilson, III, age 67, went home to be with his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ surrounded by his family at home on Friday, August 19, 2022. Born in Norfolk, VA on August 7, 1955, he was the son of the late George Warren Wilson, Jr. and Shirley Burgess Wilson. He was also preceded in death by his son, Grant Wilder Wilson; and his sisters, Lynn Wilson Rosso and Pamela Wilson O'Brien.
George graduated from Indian River High School. He was a graduate of Campbell University where he was in the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. George was an active member and served as president of H.O.G. and rode with the Patriot Guard. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church and was in charge of the sound for over 30 years. George was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend and will be missed by all who knew him.
George is survived by his wife of 38 years, Catherine "Cathy" E. Wilson; his sons, George "Warren" Wilson, IV and wife, Gale, of Yorktown, VA, Garland "Windell" Wilson and wife, Cagney, of Smithfield, VA, and Garrett Winston Wilson of Carrolton, VA; his grandson, Gabriel Wilson; his nephew, Ronald Rosso and wife Marina; his nieces, Tracie Rosso and Hillary Zaneveld and husband, Christopher; his great-nephew, Chandler Rosso; and his great-nieces, Isabella Rosso and Lailah Zaneveld.
A Funeral Service to celebrate George's life will be held on Friday, August 26, 2022, at 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church, 200 S. Church Street, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Rev. Bill Grisham officiating. Burial will follow the service at Pineview Cemetery. A visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM prior to the service in the First Baptist Church Family Ministry Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in George's memory to First Baptist Church, 200 S. Church Street, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 or Nash UNC Health Care Hospice & Palliative Care, 2460 Curtis Ellis Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
