Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I will always remember Pete as a gentleman and a good friend during my visits to Proctor’s Chapel at Gaston Lake. I felt welcomed at his house and appreciated his hospitality. I know that his soul mate, Ida, will miss him very much, as will we all.

  2. When I was a little girl, I enjoyed looking at Momma’s(Blanche Pollock’s) old photographs. She had several of her and Pete on the steps of Goldsboro High School acting goofy. Their clothes were in disarray and they were making funny faces. Momma said they were drunk. I knew that Momma never touched the stuff, so I thought it was odd that she and Pete were drunk. She was kidding, of course. Pete always had a smile and something funny to say, even at Momma’s funeral, he made me smile. He will be missed. He will never leave you as you keep him alive in your hearts. Love, Molly Ann Pollock Birth

  3. My name is Jay, my grandparents (Ken and Alda Felgar) lived across from the Briley’s for many years at Lake Gaston. I have great memories of the neighborhood on the Lake as a boy. One of my best is walking back from fishing at the Hinton’s and giving Mr. Briley the latest fishing report. Mr. Briley was always working out in the shed or garage so I had to stop for a chat. To Mrs Briley and the family go my sincere condolences and prayers for the days ahead while holding on to our faith of a better place. Lake Gaston will always be a huge part of my childhood memories and the friendship shown to me and my grandparents by the Briley’s has it’s own special chapter. God Bless – Jay

  4. My name is Wes Proctor. My grand parents(James and Nellie Proctor) lived next door to the Brileys at Gaston Lake for many years. I think I was about 4 or 5 years old when I met Pete and Ida. It wasn’t long before I knew them as Uncle Pete and Aunt Ida. They treated me as if I was family. I share many fond memories with the Briley family at that lake. We didn’t always see them every time we visited my grandparents but when we did it made the time that we spent at the lake alot of fun. George Jr., Steve, and Vicky were like older brothers and a sister to me. Playing with their family dog Sandy was a source of alot fun as well. One of my favorite things that I did with Uncle Pete was feeding the cat fish from his peer. My brother and I would help him feed these cat fish any chance he would let us. He would sometimes use a whole loaf of bread feeding what looked like at least a hundred cat fish. I’m sure we kept him from eating sandwiches during the summer for lack of bread. This is one of the many things that I do with my own children at Belews Lake still to this day. My grandparents exposed me to the joy of outdoor activities at Gaston Lake and also introduced me to the Briley family. I consider it an honor and a priviledge to have known Uncle Pete and the rest of his wonderful family. Our thoughts and prayers are extended to the entire Briley family. I will miss Uncle Pete greatly. With Love, Wes

  5. I was so shocked to see the obituatry listed today, July 12th, for Pete Briley. This family has been friends of my family for many many years. I have known Pete and Ida to both be of the highest character and morals, and even more importantly, the very best of friends one could ever hope to cherish. To Ida, my friend, may God continue to bless you with good health and the love of family along with the many wonderful memories of Pete. To the family, may you continue to live as your parents have taught you and have led by good example. And a special note to Chris, may you continue to always live your days as that special grandson of Ida and Pete always making them so very proud of you. And to each of the other family, may God continue to bless you with wonderful memories and healing hearts as you continue to live through His guidance and love. May God bless each of you. Love, Dr. Paul Barfield
