Sorry to hear of Mr. Metrick passing. He recently did my scholarship article in the news paper. I only saw him once in person, but had many contacts thru phone calls and emails about articles for the Telegram newspaper for many, many years. Gene was truly one of a kind, possessing a heart of gold. Despite his unparalleled professionalism and talent, he was one of the most humble and down-to-earth people one could ever encounter. His personality was magnetic drawing everyone to him when I worked with him at the Rocky Mount Telegram in the early 2000s. It was an honor and a privilege to have known Gene Metrick. Peace and harmony..Fly high, Gene!
