Forest Elliott Dalton

DURHAM - Forest Elliott Dalton, age 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Treyburn Nursing Home, Durham, NC. Born in Lincoln County, NC on September 16, 1926, he was the son of the late Chance Caldwell Dalton and Pearl Grigg Dalton. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Dorothy Shearin Dalton; seven brothers and sisters; and granddaughter, Wendy Medlin.
Forest grew up in Lincoln County and Cherryville, NC and lived the majority of his adult life in Halifax County, NC. He proudly served in the United States Army, and later owned and operated Dalton Grocery in Hollister, NC until he retired. He was a member of Dortches Baptist Church.
Forest leaves behind to cherish his memory, two sons, Forest Dalton, II of Bristow, VA; and Timothy Dalton and wife, Amy, of Durham, NC; two step-sons, Wayne Medlin of Henderson, NC; and Dale Medlin and wife, Diane, of Littleton, NC. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Maurianna, Forest III, Drew, Cole, Laney, Ashlie, and Cassie Dalton. He also leaves behind his devoted companion, Edith Gay of Roanoke Rapids.
A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, August 14, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel Mausoleum of Rocky Mount Memorial Park with Rev. Barton and Rev. Howell officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday, August 13, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Cremation Services.

I REMEMBER WAY BACK WHEN , FOREST, DOT MY WIFE FAYE AND I ALL WENT TO GASTON LAKE , AND PUT FOREST BOAT IN THE WATER , AND OMCE UNDERWAY , I TRIED TO GET UP ON WATER SKI’S BUT COULD NOT , AND IT SEEMS LIKE FOREST DRUG ME FROM ONE SIDE OF THAT LAKE TO THE OTHER WITH NO LUKE . I GAVE UP AND GOT BACK ON BOARD THE BOAT .LOL
I can remember Mr. Forest Dalton as a little girl when I would always go into his store with my parents to buy candy and chips and anything he had in there. He was such a nice person and will be missed by all who he came in contact with. I know that he’s in heaven smiling down on us. With deepest sympathy Nikesha Lynch-Sharpe
