Emma Pridgen Skinner

May 21, 1929 ~ May 16, 2012

On May 16, 2012, our precious mother, sister, grandma and friend, Emma Pridgen Skinner, departed this life and entered into the Kingdom of God. She was born on May 21, 1929; the daughter of Henry Luther Pridgen and Mollie Robbins Pridgen. She was preceded in death by her parents, her dear husband of 54 years, James A. “Billy” Skinner; her best friend and loving sister, Mavis Skinner; brother-in-law, Ed Skinner; her son-in-law, Vann Manning; and brother-in-law, Sam Braswell. Always on her mind and in her heart was her oldest child, a daughter, who was stillborn in December 1950. She never saw her face or held her in her arms; but always remembered her and longed to touch and see her. We celebrate that reunion now. Her very first love was her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She served Him faithfully in every endeavor. A member of Union Missionary Baptist Church from childhood; she loved her church family with all her heart. Attending church services brought great joy to her life. She served in numerous capacities to include: Sunday school teacher for young married adults, sang in the choir and especially enjoyed singing special selections with her sisters (“The Pridgen Sisters”). She is survived by her daughters, Angela “Angie” Vaughan and husband James and Jamie Lynne Jobe and husband Johnny; her grandchildren, Susanne Vaughan, Ashley Flythe and husband Kevin, Joshua Manning and wife Marie; great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and Caroline Flythe; sisters, Annie Lee Braswell, Carol Smith and husband Robert, Nancy Skinner and husband Garland; brother, Willard Pridgen and wife Joyce; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. The family will receive friends and relatives 1:00pm to 2:00pm Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Union Missionary Baptist Church. A Going Home service will be held at 2:00pm following the visitation with Rev. Gene Brooks officiating. Burial will be at Mill Branch Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the dedicated nurses and staff of 4th floor South of Nash General Hospital and especially everyone that touched her life for 6 years at Autumn Care of Nash. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding; In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths.” Arrangements entrusted to Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home, 1130 N. 1. Angela and Jamie, my heart aches for you as I know the void that you must be feeling right now because my mom just passed on Feb. 29th. Even though we know that your mom is not suffering any longer and is in Heaven now with your dad! Your mom was such a sweet and special Godly woman whom my family loved very much! I wished I could tell you that the coming days will be easy but I can’t. Just know that our thoughts and prayers are with you now and will be you in the days to come! A preacher friend of ours told me that if someone told me that they were sorry that I had lost my mom; just tell them that she wasn’t lost; she was in Heaven waiting for us to get there so just know that she is in Heaven waiting for you to get there and is your ‘Guardian Angel’ until then! We love you all very much! Love & Prayers, Shirley & Allen Smith

  2. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this time of loss (sorry for the typo).
