Rocky Mount - Edna Hathaway Hudgins, age 91, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2016. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on September 6, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Whit Lloyd Hathaway and Verna Carson Hathaway. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Christopher “Chris” Columbus Hudgins.
Edna graduated high school in 1944, named Miss Tarboro High and was honored with the most outstanding graduate, which was something she would often talk about and was very proud of. A devoted wife, a loving mother, and friend, Edna will be dearly missed and will never be forgotten. She touched the lives of so many people and will always be remembered with love and kindness.
Edna leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter, Verna Elizabeth “Libby” Hudgins of Rocky Mount. She is also survived by her nephew, Sammy Kea and his son, Allen Kea of Rocky Mount.

We were neighbors of Edna for less than two years, but in that short time, we witnessed her grace, wit and knowledge. She always warmly welcomed us into her home and never ceased asking us about our lives and interests. We never saw her without a smile on her face and in her heart. John says he will always remember Edna’s bright, beautiful eyes. Libby lovingly cared for her Mother and was such a positive influence on us who also had family members in failing health. Our thoughts and, most especially, our prayers are with you, Libby, at this most difficult time. John and Anne Harrell
