Edith Pridgen Joyner

Mrs. Sarah Edith Pridgen Joyner, age 87, of Rocky Mount, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 3, 2011 at the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington, NC. Born November 17, 1923 in Wilson County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Wiley Daniel and Sarah Millie Kennedy Pridgen. She retired from Abbott Laboratories and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Joyner was a devoted mother, special grandmother, friend to all, helper in a time of need, a hard worker, and loved by all she met. She is survived by a daughter, Becky Allen and her husband, David, of Lexington, NC; a son, Norman Joyner and his wife, Judy, of Nashville, NC; two sisters, Nannie Drake and Jeanette Pridgen, both of Rocky Mount, NC; two brothers, Ted Pridgen of Rocky Mount, NC and Autry Pridgen of Louisburg, NC; Four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Earl "Turk" Joyner; two sisters, Pattie Bone and Kay Ezzell; and three brothers, W.D. Pridgen, Bill Pridgen, and George "Doc" Pridgen. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM on Friday, July 8, 2011 in the Chapel of Wheeler Woodlief Funeral Home. Pastor Dave Grogan will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service and will be at the home of her son, Norman, at other times. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
