Edith Mae Hill Wheeler

ROCKY MOUNT - Edith Mae Hill Wheeler, age 88, passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2017. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on May 19, 1929, she was the daughter of the late John Casey and Lizzie Mae Hill Williams. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 37 years, Sam Wheeler, Jr.; and step-sister, Irene Vick.
Edith worked for 20 years for the Nash Rocky Mount School System. An active member and dedicated Christian of Union Missionary Baptist Church, she loved teaching Sunday School and working in the nursery. Edith was a loving wife, mother, caring grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Most of all she was the most wonderful of friend, and her heart and spirit will forever be remembered.
Edith leaves behind to cherish her memory, son, Paul Timothy Wheeler and wife, Kathy, of Rocky Mount; and daughters, Jo Ann Wheeler Allen and husband, Waymouth, of Rocky Mount, and Jeva Wheeler Hess and husband, Carlos Vazquez, of Rocky Mount. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Jonathan Allen, Linda Tyndall, Samuel Wheeler, Timothy Wheeler, Joshua Hess, and Christian Vazquez; nine great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and sister-in-law, Mattie Sprinkle of Bunn.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 18, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Union Missionary Baptist Church, 9853 East NC Hwy. 97, Rocky Mount with the Rev. Ray Barnhill officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives on Sunday, September 17, 2017 from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
