Douglas MacArthur "Mr. Doug" Blackwell ROCKY MOUNT - Douglas MacArthur Blackwell, age 69, passed away Friday, October 14, 2011. He was born May 7, 1942 in Rutherford County, son of the late August and Velvie Blackwell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Tempie Blackwell; sisters, Dorothy Cissell and Marilyn Bradshaw; brothers, Edmund and Mercus Blackwell; half-sisters Blanche Boyles and Laverne Hensley; and half-brother, Marcus Blackwell. Douglas was a US Army veteran serving in Korea. After service, he moved to Rocky Mount and worked for Domestic Electric and the Rocky Mount City Housing Authority. He was an ordained deacon and served his church as a Sunday school teacher, RA leader, and choir director. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 47 years, Judith Howell Blackwell; daughters, Velvet B. Everette and Robin R. Blackwell; grandson, Matthew L. Everette; brothers, Tommy and Kenneth Blackwell; sister, Devern Upton; and many brothers and sisters in law, nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends. A memorial service will be held 2:00pm Monday, October 17, 2011 at Wheeler Woodlief Funeral Home with Douglas' nephew, Rev. Gary Garner officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Toys for Tots.   1. While Doug was in Korea he wrote and asked for a photo Rita, mine and his brother Edmonds’ 5 year daughter. He had it beautifully painted for us. Doug was such a sweet, giving soul…He will be missed.. Pauline Edwards
