Douglas “Dick” Coley Page

Rocky Mount - Douglas “Dick” Coley Page, age 84, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2016. Born in Wilson County, NC on May 24, 1931, he was the son of the late Ashley Vernie Page and Marvel Coley Page. He was also preceded in death by six siblings. Dick was well-known throughout the community as a long-time member of the Rocky Mount Elks Lodge. He began his career with Flowers Bakery at age 19 where he remained until his retirement at age 55. His passions included gardening and wood-working, where he especially enjoyed building things for his beloved grandchildren. He was well known for his sense of humor and for always being the life of the party. Dick leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Jane Griffin Page; his sons, Michael Page and his wife, Wanda, of Nashville; Richard Page and his wife, Lynn, of Houston, TX; and Barry Page and his wife, Melody, of N. Myrtle Beach, SC. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michelle Deringer and her husband, John; Ricky Page and his wife, Amy; Ashley Page and his wife, Carolyn; Beth Roy and her husband, David; Lindsey Page; and Madison Page; his seven great-grandchildren; and his sister, Marie Boone. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Cremation Services. The Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 AM with Pastor Kermit Morris officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.   2. I remember working with Dick at Wooten’s Marine when he was helping Mr. Wooten sell lawn mowers. He was a very sweet man!

I will always remember Dick coming thru for my mom and dad at a time when it seemed there was not an answer to getting awheelchair ramp built for my mom.Before we knew what was happening,here came Dick and 2 other guys with lumber and everything they needed to build that ramp..They spent most of that day building and when they left, everything was done and done well.. we had a sturdy, well built ramp….my mom suffered with demencia and had no knowledge of the wonderful thing Dick had done for her but I know that moms mental abilities are more than fully restored now and I’m sure she will be one of the first to welcome Dick to Heaven and to thank him for what he did for her. on behalf of the Varnell family, thank you Dick for being so generous and thoughtful to our family. Our love and prayers go to your sweet wife,Jane and your family. We will always remember you!!

I WAS A FRIEND OF DICK’S HAVING MADE HIS ACQUAINTANCE THROUGH HIS HAVING KNOWN MY WIFE , AND EVERY TIME THAT WE WERE OUT SOMEWHERE , WHEN WE WE DEPARTING , HE WOULD ALWAYS TELL ME TO GIVE MISS FAYE A BIG HUG FOR HIM . DICK WAS FUN TO BE AROUND AND AN OUT AND OUT GOOD PERSON . HE WILL BE MISSED BY ALL.
