Dorothy Shearin Cartee

Dorothy “Dot” Shearin Cartee, age 80, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2013. Born in Nash County on October 23, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Walter Daniel Shearin and Ada Belle Brantley Shearin. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Teanna Chapman. Dottie was loved by everyone she met, especially the love of her life, her husband of 56 years, Ed Cartee. She loved her Lord and Savior along with her family. Throughout her years she was a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother who made sure everyone had what they needed, especially the Word of God. She adored seeing the enjoyment her wonderful cooking would bring. Dot loved to wet a hook during the summer but most of all, she loved her family, her church family, as well as her blood relatives. She was and still is a faithful servant of the Lord. She is now among the angels running through the streets of gold. She leaves behind her husband, William E. Cartee; daughters, Betina Blanford and husband Kim and MerriAnne Brantley, both of Rocky Mount; four grandchildren, Justin Blanford, Cricket Brantley, both of Rocky Mount, Shanda Frydenlund and husband Grant of Madison WI, and John Chapman of Red Oak; and one great-granddaughter, Teanna Rose Larson of Madison WI. She will also be remembered by her four sisters, Shirley Boyce and husband Richard Pell of Daytona Beach Shores FL, Georgia Scofield of Crystal River FL, Patsy Bean and husband Rick of Dover NH, and Peggy Whitney of Kentucky; and two brothers, Leon Shearin and Danny Shearin, both of Rocky Mount. The family will receive friends and relatives 7:00pm - 8:30pm Friday, January 18, 2013 at Benvenue Baptist Church. A service to remember Dot will be held at 2:00pm Saturday afternoon at Benvenue Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Gearhart officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
