Doris “Piney” Mullins Long passed away after a long life of 86 years. Born in Dickenson County, Virginia on December 29, 1925, she was the last of twelve children born to Andrew Jackson and Minnie Hill Mullins. She was preceded in death by six brothers: Roland, Walter, Caswell, Goodison, McKinly, and Bobby; and five sisters: Gracie, Lackie, Joyce, Stella, and Alice. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Ollen Lewis Long.
She is survived by a daughter, Shirley J. Tompkins and husband Tommy of Rocky Mount, and sons: Johnny L. Long and wife Frances, Danny G. Long and wife Rebecca, all of Nashville, and A. Ray Long and wife Tammy of Elm City. Also surviving are six grandchildren: John Thomas Tompkins, Jo Lynn Long Adams and husband Tim, Jennifer Long Watson and husband Neal, Daniel Long, Linzi and Tanner Long, and two great-grandchildren: Nicholas Tyson and Nathan Watson.
Graveside services and burial will be held at Pineview Cemetery (Section 53) in Rocky Mount at 2:00pm on Tuesday, January 24, 2012.
The family will receive friends from 7 - 9pm on Monday, January 23, 2012 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Shirley Tompkins, 44 Rainbow Court, Rocky Mount.
