Doris Newton Daughtridge

ROCKY MOUNT - Doris Newton Daughtridge, age 91, passed away on Friday, May 19, 2017. Born in Nash County, NC on December 11, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Johnnie Thomas Newton and Minnie Williford Newton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward E. "Curly" Daughtridge; brothers, William T. Newton and Charles "Doug" Newton. Doris was a long time member of the Arlington Baptist Church. She loved and enjoyed being the church greeter, as she was known as a social butterfly to her family and friends. Doris enjoyed a variety of hobbies; one in particular was decoupage and crocheting. Doris was a loving wife of 70 years; mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Her love will live on in all those that she knew and touched. Doris leaves behind to cherish her memory, daughter, Gail Daughtridge Coggin of Rocky Mount; brother, J. Randolph Newton of Rocky Mount; grandchildren, Beverly and Kelly Coggin. She will be dearly missed by her nephew, William "Bill" Newton and niece, Donna Newton Kearney of Rocky Mount A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Bill Grisham officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Doris's name to Arlington Baptist Church, 1500 Bethlehem Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27803.
