Donald Ray Odom

ROCKY MOUNT - Donald Ray Odom, age 86, passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2020. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on April 20, 1934, he was the son of the late Willie Clyde Odom and Anna Joyner Odom. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Marvin Odom, Clyde Odom, Clarence Odom, and Horace Odom. Don was born and raised in Rocky Mount, where he owned and operated Odom Dental Laboratory for over 50 years, until his death. He was an active member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Rocky Mount, where he served many years as a Deacon, was a member of CMF (Christian Men's Fellowship) and was a past property committee chairman. Always willing to lend a hand, he was active in their Yam Jam program with the NC Food Bank, as well as assisting with food deliveries with the Helping Hands ministry. Where there was a need, he was always willing and able to assist. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Lynne Moore Odom, his high school sweetheart. A devoted father and grandfather, he is also survived by his daughters, Susan Odom Hines and husband, Mark, of Rocky Mount and Jennifer Odom Friedley of Wake Forest; his grandchildren, Christopher Barus and wife, Blair, Sarah Hines, all of Rocky Mount, Matthew Friedley, John Friedley, and Alex Friedley, all of Wake Forest; his great-grandson, Mason Barus; as well as his brother, JT Odom and wife, Jean, of Marathon, FL; his sister, Thelma Odom Goff and husband, Horace, of Wilson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park with Dr. John Browning officiating. A visitation with the family will immediately follow the service at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 7101 Creedmoor Road, #130, Raleigh, NC 27613 (in honor of his granddaughter, Sarah) or to the Battleboro Volunteer Fire Department, 4909 Hathaway Street, Battleboro, NC 27809 (where his grandson, Chris, is a volunteer fireman).
