Christine Dew Joyner

Christine Dew Joyner, age 81, passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Nash County on June 21, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Archibald Rice Dew and Maude McNeill Dew. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Richard “Dick” Joyner and grandson, Bradley Justin Armstrong. Christine was blessed with four children, Richard M. Joyner Jr. and wife Catherine of Rocky Mount, Phillip R. Joyner and wife Sylvia of Rocky Mount, Sheree J. Armstrong and husband Paul of Nashville, and Stephen R. Joyner and wife Mel of Middlesex; seven grandchildren, Richard “Mick” Joyner III and wife Brandi of Raleigh, Brian Joyner of Rocky Mount, Phillip Joyner Jr. and wife Ashley of Rocky Mount, Christi Joyner-Gaither and husband Michael of Whitakers, Danielle Joyner of Pasadena MD, Spencer Joyner of Rocky Mount, and Rhonda Armstrong of Nashville; and four great-grandchildren, Micah, Afton and Bristol Joyner, and Logan Gaither. She is also survived by seven step-grandchildren, fifteen step great-grandchildren; two step great-great-grandchildren; sister, Grace Ward Philips; sisters-in-law, Alice Joyner Thompson, Teeny V. Joyner, and Jean B. Joyner; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also a special thank you to Kathy S. Hale for her loving devotion and care. Christine was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her faith and devotion to her beloved husband and family has left a legacy of love that will dwell within the hearts of all she loved. She has left thousands of precious memories that will be cherished and will remain a part of her family forever. Christine will live on in the hearts of everyone who loved her. Christine was an avid doll collector who, through the years, acquired over 800 dolls. She was a fabulous cook and many sat around her dinner table to share a meal and good fellowship. She enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. She enjoyed trips with her beloved husband, spending weeks on the road traveling across the country and cherishing their time together. A funeral service will be held at 4:00pm on Friday, May 18, 2012 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service.   1. My mom was friends with Christine. Christine used to write to me when I was a child. we were neighbors . My Dad was Harold F. Brooks which is also my name. I looked up to see if I could find Christine and was saddened to see that she had passed.
