Carvie Everette Strickland

Carvie Everette Strickland entered into eternal celebration with his Lord on January 1, 2014. He was born on September 22, 1922 in Middlesex, NC to the late Garland Ellis Strickland and Etta Strickland. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alene Lamm Strickland; brothers, Arthur, Jim, Thurman, Joe, and Henry Strickland, and sister, Delta Williams. Carvie is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 38 years, Bonnie Strickland, daughter, Pamela Lowe and husband, Darryl of Knoxville, TN; son, Richard Strickland and wife, Pamela of Rocky Mount; grandchildren: Paige (Gregg) Hughes, Brooke Ellenberger, Jason (Delight) Strickland, Ryan (Laura) Strickland, and Matthew (fiance Rachael Huntley) Strickland; great grandchildren: Allie Hughes and Griffin Hughes; stepdaughters: Frances Tarleton, Jane Brown (Gerry), and Cathy Savage; step-grandchildren: Blair Tarleton, Stephen Tarleton, Gerry Brown, Thomas Brown, Phil Brown, Charity Hodgin, Beth Evans, Harrison Savage. Carvie was employed by the City of Rocky Mount Public Utilities for 32 years. He was a World War II Veteran for the US Army. He served in many church ministries: choir, deacon, Sunday School teacher and Superintendent and numerous church committees. He was a member of Englewood Baptist Church. Carvie was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law and friend. His decision and desire to honor, love and serve The Lord was expressed through his actions and steadfast faith. His Christian legacy will continue with his family. Services will be held at on Saturday January 4, 2014 at Englewood Baptist Church with Pastor Greg ONeil officiating. The receiving of friends and family will begin at 1:00PM followed by a celebration of his life at 2:00PM. Flowers will be accepted or donations can be made to Englewood Baptist Church. Graveside services will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Arrangements entrusted to Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home, 1130 North Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
