Camilla Evans Bailey

March 25, 1943 ~ October 23, 2023

Sharpsburg – Camilla Evans Bailey, age 80, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 23, 2023. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on March 25, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Walter Climent Evans and Jessie Rae Davidson. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Samuel W. “Sammy” Bailey, Sr.; and her brother, Phillip “Phil” D. Evans. Camilla, a dedicated homemaker, found joy in various crafts such as painting, creating jewelry, and cross-stitching. She had a strong faith and found great fulfillment in singing with the choir and participating in her ladies' Bible study group, which were cherished aspects of her service to the Lord. Camilla had a green thumb and took great delight in tending to her garden, especially her beloved flowers. Angels held a special place in her heart, and she had a fondness for cardinals as well. Alongside her passion for crafts, Camilla spent over two decades honing her skills as a hairdresser in the field of cosmetology. Camilla is survived by her sons, Samuel W. "Fred" Bailey, Jr. (Nikki) and Michael "Bryan" Bailey (Lori); her grandchildren, Trey (Ashley), Grace, Jackson, Evan, Luke, and Mia; her great-grandson, Robert; her brother, Walter “Steve” Evans (Lucinda); and many nieces and nephews. A Graveside Service to celebrate Camilla’s life will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023, at 2:00 PM in the Rocky Mount Memorial Park Chapel on the Hill Mausoleum with Rev. Allen Mills officiating. The family will be available to receive friends and relatives immediately following the service inside the Chapel on the Hill Mausoleum until 3:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Camilla's memory to Gospel Missionary Baptist Church, PO Box 340, Sharpsburg, NC 27878. Arrangements entrusted to Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. 7. Camilla and I started in middle school together. My Mama made us matching dresses for a dance we attended. I remember spending the night with her one weekend. We were going to church that Sunday. Of course we wanted to attract some boys, so we put on pancake makeup and red lipstick. We thought we were beautiful. The minute her Mama saw us, she went into a fit. Made us go wash our faces before we left. Camilla and I have laughed so hard over this. She was a beautiful, dear friend and I will miss her. RIP Camilla

  8. My deepest sympathy to all the family of Camilla and friends. No more pain for our Sister in Christ, may she rest in peace. What a Special person Camilla was, she was loved by so many of our Women’s BS at Peace church in Wilson. Her laugh was contagious and what a great woman of faith loved by so many. 💖 When we went to lunch at Amy Jo’s her favorite to order was Ham hock with cabbage and she would eat all she could and take the rest home for her and Tina, her dog got the bone. We will never forget our beautiful friend. Til we meet again ……
