Bessie Catlett Oliver

Bessie C. Oliver, the middle daughter of the late Van Buren and Emma Poland Catlett, died Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at the age of 90. She was born in Nash County on December 5, 1924. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond Ford Turner, Sr.; her second husband, Oliver Percy Walker (Billy); sisters, Aletha Catlett Skinner and Lessie Catlett Russ; and two infant sisters. Bea was a Carolina fan! She wore her Carolina jacket proudly. She was a graduate of the Class of 1942 of Red Oak High School. Bea was a homemaker who enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She loved her yard and was so proud. Later on Bea began to work outside the home. She was an employee of The Rocky Mount Telegram in the Sandy Cross community. Then she retired from the former Abbott Lab in Rocky Mount. Bea enjoyed her church family of Corinth Baptist Church and Oakdale Baptist Church of 40 years. Until her decline in health, she attended church regularly, reading the Bible and her daily devotions. Left to cherish her memories are her husband, Warner Oliver; her loving children, Ray Turner and wife Jackie of Snellville, GA; Ronnie Turner and wife Nancy of Rocky Mount; Randy Turner and wife Bevelie of Rocky Mount; Ricky Walker and wife Gina of Nashville; three grandchildren, Beth Turner Lewis and husband Troy of Tarboro; Christopher Atlas Turner and wife Morgan of Rocky Mount and Katye Walker of Nashville; and four great-grandchildren, Kelly Grace Lewis, Colton Troy Lewis, Mason Atlas Turner and Braelynn Marie Turner. She is also survived by a hosts of nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Bea's life will be held at 3:00pm on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Pastor Mike Coggin and Pastor Roy Porter officiating. Burial will be held at Pineview Cemetery following the service. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:30pm to 2:30pm at the funeral home. The family would like to express their gratitude to Community Home Health of Rocky Mount.   3. Hi my name is Kayla and I am a local bible teacher. I am so sorry for the loss of your loved one. There is a very comforting scripture at Isaiah 258. It says that soon Jehovah will swallow up death forever and that he will wipe away all of the tears. So we can all look forward to a time when death will be no more. I hope that this scripture can bring some true comfort during these difficult times.
