Benjamin “Ben” Frederick Carpenter

ROCKY MOUNT - Benjamin "Ben" Frederick Carpenter, age 82, passed away on Friday, March 9, 2018. He was born in Ann Arbor in Washtenaw County, MI on November 2, 1935. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Schroeder and Evelyn Carpenter Baxter Schroeder. Ben is a veteran who proudly served in the United States Marine Corp. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was active in many organizations, such as the National Wild Turkey Federation, the Evening Optimist Club and the National Rural Letter Carrier Association. He loved the outdoors as he was an avid fisherman and hunter. Ben was very outgoing and positive and he was also very involved with his children. Ben leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 23 years, Jeanette Bennett Carpenter of Rocky Mount; daughter, Jennifer Delano-Gemzik and her husband, Darren of Rocky Mount; son, Trevor Delano and his wife, Tiffany of Nashville; grandchildren, Faith Berry, Grace Berry, Elizabeth Gemzik, Evan Delano and Evalina Genzik; sister, Joan Smith of Flushing, MI; brother, Walter "Wally" Schroeder of Traverse City, MI; sisters, Sharon Neumann and her husband, Dale of Traverse City, MI, Sue Knight and her husband Scott of Traverse City, MI, and Wendy Hubbell and her husband Robb of Traverse City, MI. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory twelve nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. The Family would like to thank other family members along with friends for all their love and support. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Sunset Avenue Baptist Church, 3732 Sunset Ave., Rocky Mount, with Dr. Robin Fisher officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and relatives on Monday, March 12, 2018 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ben's memory to the American Heart Association re Eastern NC, 3131 RDU Center Drive, Suite 100, Morrisville, NC 27560 or the American Cancer Society, 930 B Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC 27834 .   1. I am so very sorry for your loss. As once my brother-in-law, Ben was the most kind and caring individual anyone could ask for. I pray for peace and comfort to the family, especially Jeannette, his wife. I’ve shared many happy times with them both and will miss Ben severely. May the Lord take him into His loving arms and give him peace. I’ll always love you Benny!

  7. I’ll always remember Uncle Ben from my wedding to his nephew Brett Neumann. We were so happy that he was able to make the trip from NC to MD and he had a great time. He’ll be greatly missed. Prayers to his family.
