ROCKY MOUNT - Audrey Marie Scott Peper, 88, of Rocky Mount, NC passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2021. She was born November 17, 1932 in Onslow Co, NC, the daughter of the late Brice Edward Scott and Lillian Jenkins Scott. She was raised in Swansboro, NC along with her four brothers Alton, Cecil, Julian, and Jim. She enjoyed the beach, fishing, family fish frys with cousins, Sunday dinners, and porch visits at Uncle Lehman's house.
Audrey was married to the love of her life, Warren John Peper Sr., for 59 years. They met while she was working at the Midway Park Pharmacy in Jacksonville, NC. As a young married couple, they served in the United States Navy for nine years. Following their military service, they dedicated their lives to full time Christian ministry. For forty-five years, Audrey served as a faithful minister's wife helping others to know the love of Jesus.
She is survived by her three sons, Warren Peper (Judy) of Charleston, SC; Bob Peper (Diane) of Raleigh, NC; Steve Peper (Cindy) of Mount Pleasant, SC; a daughter Terrie Peper Tayon (Lawrence) of Dumfries, VA; a brother, Jim Scott (Marlene) of Swansboro, NC; nine grandchildren, Mark Peper (Emily), Brad Peper (Erica), Anna Peper, Lauren Wattenbarger (Kevin), Robby Peper, Brice Peper, Blakely Peper, Ashley Tayon, Courtney Palomo (Franco); five great grandchildren, Andrew, Olivia, Brynn, Alibeth, Beau, and a sixth due anytime; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Audrey graduated from Swansboro High School, and attended Tennessee Temple College in Chattanooga, TN. She had a great love for learning and enjoyed reading. She worked for Southern Bell in Charleston, SC, and retired from AT&T in Baltimore, MD after twenty-six year of service as an administrative secretary. Audrey enjoyed volunteering at church, gardening, and cooking. We will miss her coconut cake and lace cookies.
For the past three years, Audrey lived with and was cared for by her daughter and family in Virginia. During the final months of her life, she was also cared for by Brittany and Selina, lovingly referred to as "Audrey's Angels". We are grateful for the care and compassion they showed her.
