OTTAWA, CANADA - Annigie "Annie" den Hollander Hilhorst, age 83, passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022. Born in Badhoevedorp, Haarlemmermeer, in the Netherlands on September 10, 1938, she was the youngest child of the late Jan den Hollander & Annigie den Hollander. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Leslie Ann Nicole Hilhorst; and her sisters, Jannetje den Hollander and Greet Van Lent. Annie was born at the beginning of World War II and survived the German occupation. When the family was liberated by the Canadian Allied Forces, they moved to a small town called Zwanenburg where she lived and grew up and one day met a young, dark-haired, blue-eyed man named Loek Hilhorst, whom she would marry on June 3, 1959. They married and began a life In Canada. Their first job was working for Senator Cairine Wilson in Ottawa, during which time they had their first child. Eighteen months later a second child came along. The family owned two restaurants and moved to various places before settling at Annie's favorite home - 2788 St. Joseph Blvd., Orleans - in 1970. She obtained her real estate license and together, Annie and Loek owned and operated their real estate business until they retired in 1988. They then restored an old log cabin (ca. 1841) on Rollin Road, "the farm," where the two soul mates enjoyed their retirement days. They made many lifelong friends along their journey and made many cherished memories with their beloved children and grandchildren. We thank you for coming and ask you to please keep our family in your prayers.
