  13. I remember the first time I saw Amy, in 1977, my first year teaching Kindergarten at D.S. Johnson Elementary School. Amy was in Janis Edgerton and Jocile Hinton’s class. She was a precious little girl and she had an adorable smile. Our classes were lining up to get water, out in the hall, after playing outside and out of the blue, Amy looked up at me and said, My Mommy works at this school too and she is always reading books. I said, She has a great job then, if she gets to read books to children. Amy said, She has to, Miss Lewis makes her. I can still hear Jocile Hinton laughing. Amy’s love for children’s books must have been inherited from her Mom, who was the librarian at Johnson for over 40 years.
