Nicholas “Pop” Maio

BAILEY - Nicholas "Pop" Maio, age 88, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2019. Born in Nassau County, NY on August 22, 1930, he was the son of the late Antonio Maio and Lucia Ciccione. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beatrice Wasley Maio; brothers, Charlie, Tony, and Frank Maio; sisters, Mary Maio, Carmella Maio, and Josephine Veltry. Pop was the last elder Maio. A US Navy veteran, he served in the Korean conflict. Pop was an avid Yankees fan. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his loving spirit will never be forgotten as he was everything to his family. Pop leaves behind to cherish his memory, daughter, Cyndy Maio of Bailey. He is also survived by grandchildren, Jennifer Maio Thorne and husband, David, and Seth Hardin; and great-granddaughters, Rachel and Charlotte Thorne; and nephew, Frankie Maio and wife, Jae. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, 4200 Morganton Road, #300, Fayetteville, NC 28314; or St. Jude Childrens Hospital, 501 St. Judes Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
