Margaret “Peg” Seely Humphreys

ROCKY MOUNT - Margaret "Peg" Seely Humphreys, age 90, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2019. She was born was born Margaret Celia on September 26 1928, to Alma and the Rev. Ray Seely in St. Johnsville, NY, the second of five children: Pat (Mitchell), Peg, Preston (Marge), George (Jan), and Bob. She looked forward to meeting her friendly maker as she passed into God's gentle welcome on September 14, 2019. The family moved to Columbus Grove OH in 1942 when Ray was Called to the Congregational Church. Peg graduated from CGHS in the Class of '47. When the family moved to Barberton in 1948, Peg stayed behind and worked at the local movie theatre (remember that?) and for Stanley Goodwin's insurance office in the trolley car a few doors down from the Humphreys and Son furniture store. On August 27, 1950, Peg married the "and Son" Walter. She celebrated her life's dream of parenting: Bill (Laura), Betty (Barry), David, George (Audrey), and Annette. Peg lived with George and Audrey in Rocky Mount NC since 2014. Peg was preceded in death by Walter in 1990, then sister, Pat, and brother, George; she is survived by her brothers, Preston and Bob, her 5 children, 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She is remembered by family members for her care for her family and for others, for her interest in and support of their education and careers, and for her work in the life of the church and community interests. Peg's Memorial Service is scheduled for Thursday, September 26, her 91st birthday, at Turner Hall, formerly the First Presbyterian Church where she spent a lot of her time and energy. Family members will be present there, at 210 S. High St. in Columbus Grove OH 45830, at 10:00 am to greet visitors prior to the 11:00 a.m. worship service. Burial will follow next to Walter at the Truro Cemetery, and then some food, family and conversation back at Turner Hall.   1. My condolences to all my cousins, Bill, Betty, David and George and their families on your mother’s passing. I have many memories of her generous nature and sense of humor. I’m glad I was able to visit with her a few years ago.
