ROCKY MOUNT – Virginia Ann Hammond, age 68, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, November 4, 2024. She lived a life defined by her determination to uplift others and to fight for what was right.

Virginia devoted her life to building successful businesses, including Choice Care Occupational Medicine LLC, Designs Infinite Inc. and various real estate enterprises in Atlanta and the Southeast. Her entrepreneurial spirit and dedication brought significant success. Now as she stands in heaven, her legacy of strength, courage and perseverance endures.

Earlier in her career, after graduating from Emory University with a degree in Psychology, Virginia worked with Communities in Schools in Atlanta. There she passionately supported inner city youth, creating opportunities for brighter futures in education. This role highlighted her belief in the power of compassion and her dedication to improving the lives of others, a philosophy she carried into every aspect of her life.

Virginia was also an avid equestrian and polo player in Aiken, SC where she shared her love for horses and animals with her community. Her passion for animals extended beyond her equestrian pursuits, reflecting her kind and nurturing spirit. She was also deeply committed to volunteerism, offering counseling support at Grady Hospital and bringing joy to residents at Breman Nursing Home. Her vibrant personality and steadfast commitment to service left an indelible mark on her community.

Virginia will be remembered not only for her remarkable achievements, but also for her laughter, warm heart and love for life. She brought joy to every room she entered and left behind memories of kindness, humor and the ability to make everyone feel special. Her presence will be deeply missed, but lovingly celebrated by all who knew her.

Virginia is survived by loving sister, Edie W. Brown of Florence, SC; brothers Mike Williford and wife Karen of Atlanta, GA, Johnny Hammond of Oxford, NC; nieces and nephews, James M. Hodges Jr. of Timmonsville, SC, Candace H. Stone, husband Jeff and daughter Eres of Dallas, TX, F. Chisolm Beckham, wife Katy and children Emma, Lilah and Wade of Lexington, SC; aunt Rachel Burkett of Danville, NC and numerous cousins. She is also remembered fondly by her dear friend, Fernando Bustelo of Milton, GA.

A Graveside Service to celebrate Virginia’s life will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Pineview Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will follow the service at the graveside.
