Samuel Timothy "Tim" Nicholson

ROCKY MOUNT – Samuel Timothy “Tim” Nicholson, age 80, passed away at the VA hospital in Durham, NC on Sunday, November 26, 2023. Born in Beaufort County, NC on November 9, 1943, he was the son of the late John Lawrence. Nicholson, Sr. and Katherine Hicks Nicholson. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, John Lawrence Nicholson, Jr. and his twin, Dr. Thomas W. Nicholson. Tim was a graduate of Rocky Mount Senior high school and Attended NC State. He was a veteran of the Vietnam war. Tim is survived by his wife of 55 years, Helen Stein Nicholson of Rocky Mount; his sister, Katherine Nicholson Mitchell and husband, Albert, of Washington, his brother and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Nancy Stein of Columbia SC, Georgia and Billy Moore of Pittsboro, and Sue Nicholson of Washington; and many beloved nieces and nephews. A Memorial Graveside Service to celebrate Tim’s life will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Pineview Cemetery with Rev. Chris Adams officiating. The family will receive people at the home of Rhonda and Scott Dunn, 2160 Joelene Drive, Rocky Mount, following the service. Special thanks go to Rhonda Dunn, Renee Jolly, Robin Champ, and Alyson Zarzecki for their very special attention and care during Tim's illness. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Tim’s memory to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Financial Assistance Program, 101 N. Bonner Street, Washington, NC 27889.   1. We are so saddened that our dear friend and former neighbor, Tim, has died! He was such a special friend and one we dearly loved. We have many special memories of times spent together. To Helen, Katherine and all his family we send our love and condolences!

  2. Tim and I were 1st cousins. His Mother, Katherine was the sister of my beloved Father, Tom W. Hicks. Tim was kind, intelligent, loving, always smiling, thoughtful & had a terrific sense of humor! Tim was a special Gentleman & showed love to everyone. Tim & Helen were a perfect match. Their devotion, faith,and love for each other was a great testimony of their beautiful marriage. Tim has certainly earned his Angel Wings and is with our Heavenly Father.
