Rocky Mount – Paul Bryant Snead, age 66, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2025. Born in Mecklenburg County, Virginia on March 12, 1958, he was the son of the late Floyd Coolidge Snead, Sr. and Dorothy Page Whittemore Snead. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Floyd Coolidge Snead, Jr.
After graduating from Rocky Mount Senior High School, he pursued his passion for learning at North Carolina State University, earning a degree in Nuclear Engineering. His 39-year career as an engineer, manager and mentor at CP&L, Progress Energy, and Duke Energy took him across the state of North Carolina, from Southport to Raleigh to Charlotte, shaping the energy industry and the lives of countless colleagues along the way. Following his retirement, he returned to his beloved Rocky Mount, where he found joy in serving as a deacon and Sunday school teacher at Arlington Baptist Church. A man of many passions, he was an avid comic book collector, a dedicated genealogy enthusiast, a devoted sports fan, and, most importantly, a loving husband, father, and cherished friend. Above all, Paul found his eternal hope in his Savior, Jesus Christ, through a steadfast faith that guided his life and encouraged all who knew him.
Paul is survived by his wife of 44 years, Janet Marie Rawlins Snead; his son, Jason Bryant Snead and wife, Jessica; his daughter, Susan Snead Webb and husband, Kevin; his grandchildren, Simon James Snead, Clara Juliet Snead, Joseph Eli Webb, Rebekah Lynn Webb, and Sarah Grace Webb; and several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and good friends.

I join you in sorrow over Paul’s passing from this life, but I know that I will see him again someday in the future. He is absent from the body, but face to face with His Lord and Savior Jesus, the most wonderful place he could be for everlasting to everlasting.
Our condolences to the family. Please know you are all in our thoughts & prayers. David has been sharing memories of times spent with Lennie, Paul, and Floyd, Jr. Martha Whittemore & David are siblings. ❤
Paul and I worked for many years together in Environmental areas. He could always be counted on to give guidance. The best thing was he was a great friend.
