BATTLEBORO - Myrtle Adassa Dean Kennedy, age 75, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2017. Born in W. Indies, Jamaica on May 23, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Hubert Sirjue Dean and Charlotte Bailey.
Loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Known to many as Myrtz, Myrty Byrty, Ma, Nana and Mycle. Myrtle was a strong individual. She and her husband, Patrick came to the US in 1968 to prepare a place for their three daughters. Over the years she made sure the family had everything they needed to be successful in life and even in her own unique way, instilled a sense of ownership and purpose in her daughters. An ambitious lady, she worked and retired from Lenox Hill Hospital after 25 years of service. Living in New Jersey for 10 years, Myrtle and Patrick decided to uproot and enjoy their retirement years together in North Carolina.
Myrtle leaves behind to cherish her memory, husband of 56 years, Neville St. Patrick Kennedy; daughters, Marika Kennedy-George and husband, Allan; Andrea Kennedy-Harris and husband, Kim; and Karen Kennedy-Giannatasio and husband, Anthony. She is also survived by grandchildren, Michael George, Matthew George, Danielle Harris, and Isabella Harris; brothers, Winston Sirjue of New Jersey and Cleveland Sirjue of Florida; and sisters, Jean Sirjue of Wilson, North Carolina; Rosemarie Sirjue of New Jersey; and Vinnette Sirjue of W. I worked with Myrtle over 30 years ago at Lenox Hill Hospital. I had just recently inquired about her with another co-worker from LHH. (I happen to be in the photo with her). Whenever she was at work she always made you smile. She was kind and compassionate. I have never seen such a beautiful tribute before. Thank you for sharing pieces of Myrtle’s life with us. May her life always live on in your heart and I hope you can celebrate her life. Denise Cerami (Vaccaro)
My Memory – Wherever Myrtle was, Pat was — Wherever Pat was, Myrtle was. I always admired the deep connection they had with one another — a deep love which one could only hope to achieve.
My beautiful Nana, I’m going to miss you so much. Such a strong woman, I’m so happy your not in pain anymore. I love you so much Nana heart Love from little Myrtle
I worked in the NCCU at Lenox Hill hospital with Myrtle for 17 years. She was the most wonderful part of working there. She was like a mother to me there. I remember how devastated I was when she, very gingerly, told us she was retiring. I cried, asked her to reconsider, and things were never the same there again. She was such a bright, beautiful light there and took all of us under her wing. There was nothing we couldn’t share with her and her advice was as welcome and helpful as her love was unmeasurable. I have thought of Myrtle often in the years since she and I both left the unit. She has been a guiding presence on my life. My heart breaks for her beautiful family of whom she spoke often and loved dearly. She was so proud of all her daughters and simply besotted with her grandchildren. Not to mention, Patrick. That was an enviable love story. They made an amazing, loving, devoted couple. My thoughts are with Myrtle and her family. I will never forget you Myrtie. Thank you for everything.
My beloved sister and friend, I will miss you here on earth more than words can say. I will forever cherish the time we spent together and the special moments we shared. You were so supportive to me as I struggled with my own health issues and though many miles separated us you somehow managed to provide the comfort and guidance that I needed. I always admired the special relationship you and your dear Patrick had and I often wished I had even a small fraction of that kind of love and devotion. You were like two peas in a pod and you never saw one without the other. What a beautiful life you had and what an amazing legacy you left behind. God speed my sweet angel until I see you on the other side.
Myrtle’s life was the epitome of love; the everlasting Myrtle & Pat Love Story- a romantic classic, her passionate love of family, and her love of others. (The meaning of Myrtle’s name ‘symbolizes love and marriage’.) Myrtz had a great sense of humor and could tell a good story. Our conversations were full of laughter. I will miss Mytrz but cherish her memory. Myrtz has left you all God’s gift of love, a love that never changes, love that will comfort and remain in mind and heart forever.
Thank you for your condolences.
