Mildred worked for Parkview Hospital for many years before going to work as the social worker and church secretary of The Salvation Army in Rocky Mount for over 30 years. When she retired, she began her ministry of visitation in the nursing homes of Nash County. Granny B was devoted to all nursing home residents in Nash County. She served as a volunteer ombudsman on the Nursing Home Community Advisory Committee at the Upper Coastal Plain Council of Governments for over 25 years. The name stuck and she is well known by young and old as Granny B. On February 13, 1992, she and her husband celebrated 50 years of marriage with a beautiful reception with many friends and family. It was a joyous occasion as they renewed their wedding vows. She was a member of the Salvation Army for over 70 years, enjoying teaching Bible Study and women’s ministry. She was always active whether ringing the bell for the Red Kettle Campaign at Christmas or registering those who needed assistance in various ways. She loved being with the Senior Group and the Exercise Groups that met at different times. Granny B had a magnetic personality and a tremendous compassion and love for children, especially those with a disability or challenge. For years she has kept her list with birthdays, and she would send cards on their birthday, usually with a note. She was a caregiver, and she has sent to one particular nursing home a card to each resident and staff member a birthday card on their birthday. 7. Q: What will you never forget about Mildred Ann Mozingo “Granny B”?

A: The number one thing I will never forget about staying the night with grandma and spending time with her and grandaddy are all the breakfast mornings. They would wake me up and I would make the bed up most of the times I’d smell the sweet smell of pancakes or waffles and bacon and eggs. She would always have me a glass of orange juice and a glass of milk. Breakfast mornings were always my favorite because she would take the time to pass around her daily devotional cards for each of us to pick a daily card and read it out loud. I even remember the clear looking flip open case she kept them in. It always made me feel good and more than most of the time feel better doing the morning devotional readings. I love you grandma and I’ll miss you and see you again one day in the future. I’m sorry I haven’t been around in a while to see you. But I’ll see you again.

  11. I met mildred barwick , granny b, through a couple of sister/ friends through the Salvation army. She wanted a pen pal and so our friendship began. She also sent letters to my grand children and a dollar a piece. She made jewelry and shared with us. Such a sweet lady who loved the Lord. We will miss her

  12. Special you will always be, Granny B.
I’m happy you’re with Jesus, and also you’re there with my Mommy. 💜

This poem I share with permission, written many years ago by a friend:

I Loved The Lord with all my heart. But time has come for me to part. I am going to heaven to be with My loved ones, who has gone before. My prayer is that you be saved so you can meet me on the other shore. I Loved My church, my Pastors and family…
I loved my Dear children, In-laws, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews. I loved as well, my friends.
But I loved my Lord most of all, til the end.

  13. I thank God for the life of Mildred ‘Granny’ Barwick. Granny has always been a part of my life and such an encourager to me. She was a mentor and leader, taught me in SS, Youth meetings, Corps Cadets, and so much more. Granny was always loving, caring, visiting nursing homes, hospitals, fixing meals for ‘shut-in’s’, a pen-pal to so many through her card ministry, making jewelry and sharing with those she visited. After my retirement I would visit her and we would go around visiting shut-ins, being a bright spot in their lives. A prayer warrior. She loved her family and so proud of them. I do thank God for Granny being a part of my life and now in my heart. A life well lived and always thinking of ‘Others’. May God bless the family and may they keep those precious memories of the life of their precious loved one. Thank you Granny for being in my life and for so many precious memories. Love and prayers, Hilda Howell

  14. Q: How did you meet Mildred Ann Mozingo “Granny B”?

A: I met her through my Aunt Mildred “Mimi” Birney who served with her at the Salvation Army. She was a very sweet dear lady and my Aunt Mimi loved her dearly. I know they worked together until Aunt Mimi passed 11 yrs ago. I’m sure they’re smiling together in Heaven and I know Granny B is missed so much. It was such an honor to have known her.
