Mary Ella Etheridge Smiley

Whitakers, NC Mary Ella Etheridge Smiley, 82, passed away Friday, May 28, 2010. She was born May 6, 1928 in Edgecombe County, daughter of the late Claude and Grizzelle Etheridge. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Holt Smiley who passed away in 1990, and sister Grizzelle E Harris. Mary Ella was a teacher for the NC Public Schools. She was also a member of Whitakers United Methodist Church. Mary Ella is survived by three sisters, Hallie E. Wannammaker of Clemson SC, Anne E. Barnes of Weldon NC, and Sadie Carol E. Ward of Roanoke Rapids NC; and a host of nieces and nephews. A funeral service to remember Mary Ella will be held 11:00 am, Monday, May 31, 2010 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. Marjorie Holm officiating.
