ROCKY MOUNT – Marjorie Dew Lewis, age 82, surrounded by her family, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, November 8, 2024.  Marjorie was born in Rocky Mount – living her entire life in Edgecombe County.  She was the daughter of the late Frank Emmett Dew Sr. & Lina Trevathan Dew.   She is preceded in death by her brothers, Bobby Eugene Dew, Frank “Sonny” Dew, Jr. and William Robert Dew.

She loved her family, especially her grandchildren.  She loved to work in her yard, her garden and her greenhouse.  She loved growing flowers and could grow anything into something absolutely beautiful.  Her vegetable gardens were always bountiful when harvest time came. She was the most talented seamstress which was one of her favorite hobbies.  She used this talent to make clothing for herself and her family.  She shared her love for sewing with her granddaughter, Marisa, and taught her everything she knows.  She also loved making dolls for her grandchildren.  She was always up for a game of FROG or baseball with her grandsons, David, Jacob, Tommy or Seth.  Marjorie made beautiful quilts.  This was such a labor of love for her, as she has given each family member one of her handmade quilts. She was an exceptional baker, especially known for her 6 layer chocolate cake which was shared at every family birthday celebration.  She cherished cooking Sunday lunch for her family, bringing everyone together with a table full of delicious homemade dishes. Many family holiday gatherings were held at home including; Easter, Easter Egg Hunts, Christmas and 4th of July.  Marjorie loved West Edgecombe Baptist Church especially, the Nursery Department.  She was the Nursery Department Director for many years.  She loved taking care of the babies at the church.

To cherish her memory, Marjorie leaves behind her husband of almost 65 years, Bennett Berry Lewis of Rocky Mount; her daughter, Lisa Lewis Pridgen (Wayne), her son, Bennett Berry Lewis ll (Kim),  her daughter, Amanda Lewis Evans (Mark).  Her grandchildren, David Pridgen (Nikki), Marisa Pridgen, Jacob Pridgen, Tommy Evans and Seth Evans;  and her brother, John Emmett Dew (Amy); Sisters, Bonnie Dew Salmon (Lester) and Peggy Dew Bingham (Dan) and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
