Marion Adams Manning

December 7, 1920 ~ March 19, 2015

Marion Adams Manning, beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2015. She was born in Danville, Virginia on December 7, 1920 to the late Emma Tanner Adams and Sumpter Hutchinson Adams. Preceding her in death was her devoted husband of over 52 years, John Wiggins Manning. Marion grew up and lived all of her years in Rocky Mount. A true homemaker who worked canning and freezing the vegetables her husband John grew in his garden. She was known for her special pineapple and coconut cakes. It was always a joy to gather for big family meals at “Me Mas” house prepared with love. The kitchen was always her special place. As she aged and did not cook as much, she sat at her kitchen table and did word search puzzles. In the last year she was confined to home with caring sitters who helped keep her at the place she loved. A special thank you to Bea Rackley, Faye Booth, Tanya Evancho, Doris Moore and Betty Richardson for their help and their continuing visits at Autumn Care. Thank you Autumn Care for providing such great care for both our Mother and family. Her other special place for over 60 years was West Haven Presbyterian Church where she remained active until the last year when health prevented her attending. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Vickie Dew and husband, Spencer, Marsha Inscoe and husband, Bruce, all of Rocky Mount, NC and Donna Batchelor of Fort Mill, South Carolina. Also surviving are her grandchildren who lovingly called her “Me Ma”; Laura Brickhouse (Adrian) of Pilot, NC, Julie Privott (Wade) of Edenton, NC, Adam Dew (Megan) of Spring Hope, NC, Kim Rozelle (David) of Seoul, South Korea, John Batchelor (Sanni) of Greenville, SC, Ben Batchelor of Dallas, TX, Mollie Combs, Maggie Reed (Trent) and Tanner Inscoe, all of Wilmington, NC; and great-grandchildren, Gabby and Spencer Brickhouse, Wes and Reagan Privott, Elli Batchelor, Landis and Cooper Reed and another Reed grandchild on the way. Flowers are welcomed or memorials may be made in Marions name to West Haven Presbyterian Church, 1001 West Haven Boulevard, Rocky Mount, NC 27803. 1. I fondly remember Aunt Marion’s sweet smile, her delicious pineapple cake, and the swing in her back yard, which provided entertainment for me as a young girl when I would visit her and Uncle John. I can picture their house right now – we would park in the driveway, always on the side of the sunroom, where one could find a variety of peppers or canned vegetables, carefully grown and preserved by Aunt Marion and Uncle John. Their kitchen was the center of the house – good food and good conversations. Keep smiling, sweet Aunt Marion. You sure gave all of us something to smile about! Love you! -Ann

  2. I am truly sorry for your loss. The death of a love one is by far one of the hardest pain that a person will ever have to bare. The Bible foretells Let his flesh become fresher than in youth; let him return to the days of his youthful vigor. Job 33 25 What a wonderful gift, that even the aging process will be reversed. We will be glad for the resurrection to come to pass.
