ROCKY MOUNT – Margie King Lewis, age 92, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 8, 2023. Born in Nash County, NC on May 12, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Allen King and Annie Howell King. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Charlie Richard Lewis; one of her grandchildren; and her 11 siblings.
Margie dedicated herself to serving others through Food Service, where she utilized her God-given culinary talents to prepare a variety of meals. Her selflessness and generosity blessed her family, friends, church community, co-workers, and countless others. Margie's service extended beyond Food Service, as she also contributed her skills to Merita Bakery and Service America. However, it was within the loving embrace of her church family at Northside Community Church where Margie's culinary skill truly shone, known for her unmatched ability to prepare the most delicious Fried Chicken. Being the oldest living member of Northside Community Church and one of two remaining members of Swelton Heights Baptist Church, Margie held a special place in the hearts of her church families. In addition to her culinary passion, Margie possessed a deep appreciation for the beauty of flowers and cherished the memories created through her travels to places such as Hawaii and various states across the country. These experiences brought her immeasurable joy and gratitude. Above all, Margie took immense pride in her family, which spanned an astonishing five generations. As a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great great-grandmother, she nurtured and guided her family, leaving an indelible mark on their lives. Margie will be dearly missed, but her legacy of love, kindness, and culinary excellence will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Margie is survived by her daughters, Bonnie Lewis Webb and husband, Norman, and Phyllis Lewis Lamm and husband, Kenneth; her son, William “Bill” David Lewis; her seven grandchildren; her 17 great-grandchildren; her great great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service to celebrate Margie’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor Mark Pridgen officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
