Lynn Vick Boyette, 80, went to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of October 18, 2024.
Lynn was born May 19, 1944, in Kenly, NC as the youngest of ten children to the late Thomas Guy Vick and Ossie Overman Vick. She lived in Kenly until she met Sam Boyette. He proposed by showing her his paycheck and saying, “If you think we can live on this, we’ll get married.” They married in 1968 and moved to Rocky Mount, NC where she lived the rest of her life.
Sam and Lynn had two daughters, Lori and Beth, and Lynn stayed home to take care of them while Sam traveled on the tobacco market. She also became like a second mother to two very special family friends, Kellie Odom Huffman and Angela Odom Stallings. She nursed her husband through several years of cancer until his death in 1992 and was a breast cancer survivor herself. She loved putting up the vegetables her husband gardened, keeping a clean house, going to the beach and shopping. She worked as a substitute teacher with Nash County Schools and as a transcriptionist at Nash General Hospital until her retirement. After retirement, she volunteered with Meals on Wheels and at her church, Sunset Avenue Baptist. She loved sitting out on the carport with neighbors and friends, going out to eat and loving on her grandchildren.
Lynn was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Donald Boyette; her three sisters, Ruth Vick, Edith “Peggy” Waddell, and Billie Boykin Mattson; and her two brothers, Lester Vick and Lonnie Vick.
She is survived by her daughters, Lori Boyette Dolmatin (Rich) of Castalia and Beth Boyette Dye (Paul) of Manassas, VA; her two grandsons, Thomas Arthur Dye and David Maples Dye; her four brothers; Lance Vick (Gloria), Jim Vick (Janice), James Vick (Geraldine), and John Vick; and her two very dear friends Brenda House and Sharon Odom.
The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Brekenridge Retirement Center for their joy, fellowship and care over the last two years, and we thank Nash Hospice for making her last few months comfortable. The family also extends appreciation to Amada Senior Care for their help at the beginning of her illness.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sunset Avenue Baptist Church.
A Funeral Service to celebrate Lynn’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor Steve Roberson officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
