Katherine Denton Avent

ROCKY MOUNT – Katherine Denton Avent passed away on June 15, 2024. She was born in Nash County on December 16, 1949 and was the daughter of the late Thomas Roy Denton and Mary Frances Denton McPhail of Whitakers, NC. Katherine was preceded in death by her stepfather, Glenn McPhail, her high school sweetheart and loving husband, Ernest Braswell Avent, and her special friend, Jim Crute. Katherine was an active member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, having served on several committees including the Vestry and was senior warden. Katherine, “KK” as she was so affectionately known by many, and especially her sweet Kate, is survived by her daughter, Katherine (Kitty) Avent Hudgins, son-in-law, William (Bill Alexander Hudgins, and the apple of her eye granddaughter, Katherine (Kate) Braswell Hudgins. A Funeral Service to celebrate Katherine’s life will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at 3:00 PM at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 301 S Circle Dr., Rocky Mount, NC 27804, with Rev. Adele Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM prior to the service at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.
