Joyce Williford Wooten

ROCKY MOUNT – Joyce Williford Wooten, age 91, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2025.  Born in Wilson County, NC on January 2, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Paul Williford and Edna Williford.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” W. Wooten; and her grandson, Tyler H. Wooten.

An avid reader, Joyce graduated from Gardner’s School and Carolina School of Commerce with a degree in business.  Joyce married Bob Wooten and settled in Rocky Mount where she was employed by the US Government ASC office in both Nashville and Wilson.   She and her husband founded and operated Wooten’s Marine until retirement.  Joyce was a member of First Christian Church for 68 years.

Joyce is survived by her sons, Robbie Wooten of Rocky Mount and Mike Wooten of Rocky Mount; her grandchildren, Justin Wooten of Greenville, Lauren Wooten of Charlotte, and Lindsey Campbell and husband, Bill, of Williamsburg, VA; and her sister, Jean Abbitt of Wilson.

A Graveside Service to celebrate Joyce’s life will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Maplewood Cemetery in Wilson, with Rev. Michael McHarg officiating.

Visitation with the family will be from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the graveside service at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Ave., Rocky Mount, NC 27804
