ROCKY MOUNT – Jesse Weldon Rackley, Jr., age 68, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2024. Born in Nash County, NC on February 1, 1956, he was the son of the late Jesse Weldon “J.W.” Rackley, Sr. and Jo Ann Wood Rackley. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Jeffrey Allen “Jeff” Rackley; and his sister, JoLynn Rackley Tyson.
In the early 1970’s, Jesse followed his calling into his family’s business, By-Pass Wrecker Service, working alongside his father until his passing in 2004 at which time his father’s torch was passed onto him. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching football and basketball, especially when either the Dallas Cowboys or the Tar Heels were playing in which he was an avid fan of both. A loving and dedicated father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and good friend to many, Jesse will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
Jesse is survived by his sons, Jesse Weldon Rackley, III (Cynthia) and Stephen Lawrence Rackley (Aubrey); his stepson, Chad Umipeg (Jessica); his grandchildren, Noah Rackley, Ryan Rackley, Isabella Umipeg, Allesandra Umipeg, and Aliana Umipeg; his cousins, Nancy Joyner, Bonnie Parrish, and Laurie Bushee; and other extended family members and good friends.
A Special Gathering of Family and Friends to celebrate Jesse’s life will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at a later date at Forest Hill Cemetery.
