James Edward Prince Jr.

April 30, 1953 ~ November 23, 2025

Born in: Chatham County, GA
Resided in: Rocky Mount, NC

ROCKY MOUNT – James Edward Prince, Jr., age 72, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2025. Born in Chatham County, GA on April 30, 1953, he was the son of the late James Edward “Jim” Prince, Sr. and Peggy Joanne “Jo” Booty Prince.

James was a man whose love for the Lord shaped the way he lived each day. Deeply devoted to his home and family, he worked tirelessly to provide and ensure that those he cared for always had what they needed. His passion for music shone through in the way he played his guitar, and he found joy and relaxation in escaping into his favorite Warcraft games. A natural do-it-yourself kind of guy, James, could often be found fixing, building, or tinkering with something around the house. He was, in every sense, an all-around good man—steady, kind, and dependable. But more than anything, James adored his five grandsons, who brought immense pride and light into his life.

James is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joy Lynn Schoepflin Prince; his sons, Christopher Prince, Joshua Prince, Sean Prince; his grandchildren, James Prince, Corbin Prince, Ryder Prince, Escher Prince, and Merrick Prince; his brothers, Clifton Stuart Prince and Guy Alvin Prince; and his sister, Leila Celeste Prince Brown.

A Private Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements entrusted to Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. You may share memories and condolences with the family by visiting www.wheelerwoodlief.com.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I worked with Jim at the phone company many years ago. He was quite the character and my sympathies are with you.

  2. We loved Jimmy Prince and he will be forever more deeply missed. Hearts are very sad. We will remember all the fun times with him and slowly heal.

  3. I was honored to know Jim as a husband, dad, brother & friend. He had an open kind heart that he shared with everyone around him. You are now in peace; your family & friends will carry that with them every day and in time it will bring them peace.
Your wife, children & grandchildren will miss your smile, your silly quips and compassion. They will have those memories to carry with them and will be able to smile and laugh on all the special moments in time.
You are now with the Lord and that gives us all peace! Big Hugs!!!

  4. I remember Jimmy from BHS as being one of the nicest most handsome classmate. I am saddened to learn of his passing. I guess we are all just getting up in age now. May angels guide him to his rest
