Grover Hardy "Buddy, Jr." Cole, Jr.

ROCKY MOUNT – Grover Hardy “Buddy, Jr.” Cole, Jr., age 70, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2024.  Born in Lenoir County, NC on March 1, 1954, he was the son of the late Grover Hardy Cole and Sarah Wallace Mazingo.  He was also preceded in death by his brother, Dalton “Sam” Hinson.

Grover was very proud to have driven for UPS and retired after 40 years of dedicated service.  He served his country in the Army National Guard.  Grover loved singing at his church.  He was a family man, and extremely proud of his children and grandchildren.  Grover loved nothing better than spending time with them.  He also enjoyed making fudge at Christmas and spending time at the beach.

Grover is survived by his wife of 7 and  ½ years, Cynthia Balkcum Cole; his daughters, Christy Berreth and husband, Andrew, of Portland, OR and Becky Davis and husband, Tate, of Winterville; his step-son, Sean Rogerson and wife, Amber, of Spring Hope; his step-daughter, Michele King and husband, Jeff, of Fuquay-Varina; his grandchildren, Sara-Claire Gwinn and husband, Micah, Charlotte Berreth, Andrew James “A.J.” Berreth, Nicholas Balent, and Mason Davis; and his step-grandchildren, Katelyn Rogerson, Mackenize Denotter, Jackson King, and Conner Rogerson.

A Celebration of Grover’s Life will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Oak Level Baptist Church, 3598 Oak Level Road, Rocky Mount, NC  27804 with Pastor Rick Downing officiating.  A visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM prior to the service at Oak Level Baptist Church.

The family would like to thank the staff at UNC Nash for their comforting care during his stay, especially Dr. Lerner, Caroline, Bailey, and Chessy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Grover’s memory to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box, 758516, Topeka, KS  66675.

    So sorry to learn of the passing of your husband. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. 🙏

  2. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Grover. We are related through our fathers by them being cousins. I knew Grover through UPS. I worked with Grover directly off and on for my 32 years. We worked in Goldsboro together. He was a feeder driver for our center in Goldsboro for as long as I knew him. He was always nice and respectful to me, He will be missed. Ride em high Cowboy.

  3. I knew Grover by working with him alot of years at UPS in Goldsboro. He was a wonderful friend and just all around good fellow! He will be missed.
