ROCKY MOUNT - Gloria Plummer Gurganus passed away in her 89th year suddenly on Sunday, November 15, 2020 at Nash General Hospital. Born in Monmouth County, NJ on October 4, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Edgar Marshall Plummer and Eva Crockford Plummer of New Jersey. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack Lenwood Gurganus.
Gloria was a 1949 graduate of Rocky Mount High School and attended East Carolina Teacher College for two years taking business courses. She met the love of her life, Jack Gurganus, and they were married October 18, 1953 at First United Methodist Church in Rocky Mount. After raising their two children, Gloria worked side by side with Jack at their business, Gurganus Brothers Supermarket, for approximately 30 years. Gloria enjoyed playing bridge and she had a passion for reading.
Gloria leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Sonya Gurganus Bowen of Rocky Mount; her son, Jack Lenwood Gurganus, Jr. and wife, Terri, of Rocky Mount; her four grandchildren, Jessica Fleming (Ward), Jackson Bowen (Kathryn), Kaitlin Culler (Dylan), and Samantha Gurganus; and her two great-grandchildren, Madelynn and Alexander Culler; and her beloved nephew, Gary Gurganus.
A Graveside Service to celebrate Gloria's life will be held on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Pineview Cemetery with Rev. Matt Seaton officiating. A visitation with the family will follow the service at the graveside.
