Flora Davis Brinkley

August 21, 1933 ~ April 18, 2023

ROCKY MOUNT – Flora Davis Brinkley, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2023. Born in Nash County, NC on August 21, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Thomas Davis and Eula Morris Williams Davis. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, William “Billy” Thomas Brinkley, Jr.; her brothers, Pastor Alvin Ray Davis (Jackie), William Thomas “Bill” Davis (Viola), and James Russell Davis (Nancy); her sisters, Betty Davis (Bobby) and Shirley Jean Davis Flood (Ronnie); and her great-grandson, Adler Chilton. A woman of great faith, Flora was a member of Sharpsburg Baptist Church for over 50 years, leading the WMU, Women’s Missionary Union for over 10 years. One of her passions was teaching Sunday School. She loved her adult class and used various writings to help with her teaching. Presently, Flora was attending Memorial Baptist Church where she enjoyed supporting the Missions Team in the cap and blankets ministry. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and dear friend to many, Flora will be forever missed and never forgotten. Flora is survived by her son, Michael “Mike” Davis Brinkley and wife, Sue; her daughter, Debra “Debbie” Brinkley Chilton and husband, Rick; her grandchildren, Lane Chilton, Julie Hill (Mark), Dave Brinkley (Tracey), and Brad Chilton (Emily); her great-grandchildren, Marlie Hill, Brinkley Hill (Sara), Nolan Hill, Bella Hill, Travis Brinkley, Tiffany Brinkley, and Landor Chilton; her brother, Bobby Ernest Davis and wife, Ann; her sister, Peggy Davis Ethridge; her special friend and sidekick, Jewel Williams; and many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service to celebrate Flora’s life will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Dr. Billy Webb and Rev. Tony Russ officiating. Burial will follow the service at Pineview Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Flora’s memory to Memorial Baptist Church, 5399 Old Wilson Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27801.   6. Debbie and Mike your Mama was a wonderful influence in my life. She was my Sunday School teacher as a teenager it was an important time for me. Her influence has stayed with me through the years. Sorry for your loss.
