Ellen Rose Phillips Bass

January 26, 1961 ~ January 18, 2025

Born in: Nash County, NC
Resided in: Nashville, NC

NASHVILLE – Ellen Rose Phillips Bass, age 63, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 18, 2025, after a year-long battle with liver disease.  Born in Nash County, NC on January 26, 1961, she was the daughter of the late Ruffin Price Phillips and Dorothy Jean Parker Phillips.

Ellen was happiness.  She was joy.  Ellen was the most caring wife, mother, aunt, and friend.  She met her true love, Jimi Bass, in 1976 at Sports World skating rink and they were married 11 years later.  Ellen loved her Jesus and served him faithfully all of her days.  She was a member of Arlington Baptist Church where she spent many years sharing the love of Jesus with the children and youth.  Ellen went on several youth mission trips, taught GA’s and Sunday school, sang in the choir and praise band.  She had a 40 year career in the banking industry working as a Mortgage Loan Processor.  Ellen touched the lives of every person she met, her laugh was contagious, and her spirit was warming.  She will be deeply missed by so many that had the honor of knowing her.

Ellen leaves behind to continue her legacy, her husband of 37 years, James “Jimi” C. Bass, Jr.; her daughters, Chandler Jean Bass and Kelsey Brianne Bass; her brothers, Rick Phillips of Lexington and Wyatt Phillips and wife, Gertie, of Rocky Mount; her many in-laws; and her nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

A Celebration of Ellen’s Life will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Arlington Baptist Church, 1500 Bethlehem Road, Rocky Mount, NC  27803 with Pastor Mike Stamper and Pastor Scott Scrimpsher officiating.  The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, January 24, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.

  2. Dale and I are sorry to hear of Ellen’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time and in the days ahead.

  3. So sorry for the untimely passing of Ellen. She has no more pain and is at peace in the arms of her Saviour. Praying the Lord will give her family and friends peace and understanding during this time of grieving.

  4. Ellen was the sweetest soul. A wonderful Christian and loved her family immensely. I enjoyed working with her for several years. She will be missed.

  5. One more reason to make it to heaven. We’re all trying to get there girl. You just made it before we did. I’m glad you’re home and not sick anymore. I know you’re laughing with Jesus, resting in the Father’s arms, and dancing with the Holy Spirit. How beautiful and wonderful it must be. All things made new! I’ll see you later Ellen!❤️

  6. Ellen and I were roommates at East Carolina University from 1980-1982. Our mothers had been good friends for many years before that. Back then, there were no cell phones and a call from Greenville to Rocky Mount (between Ellen and Jimi) was long distance. So many times I woke in the morning to find Ellen laying in bed with the phone receiver in her hand!! 🤣 Of course, that meant the cord was stretched to its limit across our dorm room!! Our phone bill was incredible!! I like to think that Ellen’s love for Jimi stayed that strong through their many years together.
    Rest In Peace, Ellen.

  7. I am so sorry to hear this!!! I really can’t believe it!!!Ronnie and me are here for you all!!! I didn’t know she was sick.love you all !!! Rip ellen holidays will always be different now!!! The good lord will give you all strength to get thru this.

  8. Sending love and prayers from our family to yours. I remember Mrs. Bass as a sweet and spirited lady who was always at events to support her girls.
