Carol Eugenia Wilson

October 11, 1939 ~ October 13, 2024

Resided in: Montgomery, AL

Montgomery, Al – Carol Eugenia Wilson, (85), passed away October 13, 2024, after a short illness.  A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Pineview Cemetery, 761 E Raleigh Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27801, at 11:00 AM in the morning.

Carol was born October 11, 1939, in Rocky Mount to Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Eugene Wilson.  She was voted little Miss Englewood as a child.  She worked at the Rocky Mount Arts Center and the Tank Theater. There, she introduced many new artists at the annual Mother’s Day Art Show.  These artists went on to become widely known and respected.  After the flood in 1999, she moved to Florida, where she went to college.  She enjoyed the Florida sun in her beloved convertibles for many years before moving to Charlotte.  She made a big move to Dallas, Texas before finally settling in Alabama.  Carol was an avid collector of pottery and co-authored a book using her extensive knowledge of the subject.  A portion of her NC collection was featured in the Mint Museum in Charlotte.  A lover of flowers and plants, she made any patio beautiful, through hard work and love.

Carol was also known for her passion for Pepsi-Cola.  In the 1970’s, the neighborhood boys on bikes would ooh and ahh over the big Pepsi truck on the street, as the man carried many wooden crates of the glass-bottled fizzy treat to the little brown house on Seminole Drive.  Carol drank a lot of cola; right up until the doctor told her she would die if she drank another Pepsi.  She never had another; 15 years Pepsi free.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Micheal Murray Wilson, and her great best friend Marty Lane.  She is survived by her older son W. Douglas Etheridge, Jr., and his wife Claire Macaulay Etheridge of Charlotte, their sons W.D. (Chief) Etheridge, III and his wife Ashlyn Roberts Etheridge, of Washington, DC, and Robert Joseph Macaulay Etheridge of Charlotte.  Her younger son Samuel Wilson Etheridge of Montgomery survived her.

A Graveside Service to celebrate Carol’s life will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Pineview Cemetery with Pastor Claire Colcord officiating from First Presbyterian Church in Wilson, NC.

In lieu of flowers, please consider doing something for a neighbor.  She would love that.

Special thanks to everyone at Country Cottage in Montgomery and her dear friend Christopher.

  5. Doug & Sam, sorry to learn of your Mom’s passing. Susan Ellis, a cousin, shared information. Your Mom and I were first cousins, grandchildren of Sam & Carrie Wilson. Your grandparents, Gene and Jo, were my uncle & aunt; my father Ben was a brother to your grandfather. Used to visit your grandparents in Rocky Mount when I was in NC for the summer. Attended Doug’s wedding with my husband Henry Ahari. Know you have fond memories of your Mom. She led a very interesting life.
