Betty Sue O'Neal

ROCKY MOUNT – Betty Sue O’Neal, age 84, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2024.  Born in Richmond, KY on March 7, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Gladys Sallee.  She was also proceeded in death by her husband of 23 years, Billie O’Neal; her brothers, William “Bill” Sallee and Donnie Sallee.

Betty had a kind and compassionate heart, which she shared throughout her fulfilling nursing career at Tarboro Clinic before retiring.  She was a devoted member of West Edgecombe Baptist Church, where she found joy in serving her community and participating in activities with the Young at Heart group. Betty deeply cherished her family and was beloved by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Betty leaves to cherish her memory her son, Timmy Radford; her daughters, Theresa Vester, Crystal Strickland (Kevin), Heather Newbold (Bobby); her step-daughter, Dee Pickering (Rick); her six grandchildren, Amy Bulluck, Cole Vester (Macon), Madison Sharpe (Scott), Kacie Strickland (Colin), Dillon and Olivia Newbold; her five great-grandchildren, Brendan, Tucker, and Finnley Bulluck, Lynnlee Vester and Axel Sharpe; her sisters, Vicki Bridgers and Ella Mae Rogers; a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and dear friends.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 11:00 AM at West Edgecombe Baptist Church, 13821 NC Hwy. 43, North, Rocky Mount, NC  27801 with Pastor Matthew Mayo officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Pineview Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made in Betty’s name to West Edgecombe Baptist Church Children Department Renovation Fund – Designated to the Nursery Department Fund, 13821 NC Hwy. 43, North, Rocky Mount, NC  27801.
