Betty Ruth Rowe Slight "Pinki"

May 14, 1951 ~ January 31, 2025

Born in: Nash County, NC
Resided in: Scotland Neck, NC

SCOTLAND NECK – Betty Ruth Rowe Slight, “Pinki”, age 73, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Accordius Scotland Manor, where she had been a resident for the past four years.  Born in Nash County, NC on May 14, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Malcolm Green Rowe and Gertrude Ayscue Rowe.  She was also preceded in death by her brother, James Malcolm Rowe, “Jimmy”.

Pinki lived her life to the fullest until her health declined.  Pinki’s two greatest loves were Jesus and her family.  After graduating from West Edgecombe High School Pinki became a licensed cosmetologist.  She also operated her father’s business, Wholesale Distributors for 30+ years.  Afterwards, she began traveling with NASCAR as a promotional model.  Pinki had a deep passion for animals.  Closest to her heart were horses and Timber wolves.  She and her quarter horse, Comanche, participated in barrel races while she and her favorite Tennessee Walker, Sassy, rode in parades.  She also raised Timber wolves.  She had a deep connection and special bond with her wolves.  Pinki never had children, but her animals helped fill that void, always giving her emotional support and unconditional love.  Pinki also loved to salt-water fish with her father, as she was most definitely “A daddy’s girl!”

Pinki is survived by her sister, Nancy Rowe Taylor and husband, Steve; her niece, Jennifer Engelking and husband Tim; her nephew, Rodney Leonard; her great-niece, Emily Engelking; her great-nephews, Dillon Engelking and wife, Stacy, and Thomas Engelking and fiancée, Logan Joyner.

A Celebration of Pinki’s Life will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor Tim Suber officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank the staff of Scotland Manor for the care they provided Pinki; especially Pinki’s favorite nurse, Tonya.
