BATTLEBORO – Ann Briley Bryant, age 94, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2024. Born in Pitt County, NC on February 19, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Larry Briley and Reba Whitaker White. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Harold Bryant, Sr.; her daughter, Ginger Ann Bunch; her stepfather, Charlie White; her sister, Irene W. White; and her brother, Vance White.
Ann moved from Bethel, NC to Battleboro in 1952. A woman of great faith, Ann was a long-time member of Battleboro Baptist Church. She served her church in many roles; a Bible Study leader, Homecoming Committee, Pulpit Committee, Women’s Auxiliary and her favorite role of a Sunday School teacher to the children of the church. She was also active in the Battleboro Lion’s Club alongside her husband and the Battleboro Fire Department assisting with the annual fundraiser meals. A devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend to many, Ann will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
While Ann’s first and foremost job was a homemaker for her family, she spent many days helping her husband at Bryant’s Shell Station during the lunch hour rush making hot dogs and bologna burgers. People today still talk about how good those hot dogs were. When not cooking delicious home cooked meals, Ann could be found in her yard tending to her roses and other flowers. She loved sharing her flowers with others. During the Spring and Summer, she helped with the garden and enjoyed canning and freezing many vegetables and making homemade pickles.
Ann is survived by her daughter, Joan Inscoe and her husband, Keith of Wilson; her sons, James Harold Bryant, Jr., and his wife, Reenea of Greensboro and Larry Douglas Bryant, and his wife, Patricia of Battleboro; her grandchildren, D.J., Melissa, Jason, and Eli; her great grandsons, Caleb, Turner and Oliver; her brother, Durwood White and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dearest friends.
Special thanks to her faithful Caregivers, Althea Flowers and Shirley Irvine and to all her nurses and caregivers at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, NC.
