ROCKY MOUNT – Aline Outlaw Overman, age 95, passed away peacefully and gained her heavenly wings on Friday, December 30, 2022. Born in Wayne County, NC on July 26, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Ammie and Viola Hayes Outlaw. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Richard Lee Overman; her son, James Richard Overman; one great grandchild, Darren Jay Moore; her three brothers, David Outlaw and his wife, Kitty Jean, Melvin Outlaw, and Buddy Outlaw; and her two special friends, Hoyet Bone and Lester Mercer.
Aline worked at Summer Grade and Abbotts (Now Pfizer). After retiring from Abbotts she worked at Chick-Fil-A and was well known as “The Mint Lady”. A dedicated Prayer Warrior, a Church Mother, and a woman filled with the Holy Ghost, Aline was a dedicated lifetime member of West Mount Emmanuel Holiness Church. She was dearly loved by all of her family and friends and in return she dearly loved all of her family and friends. No words can fully describe the woman that she was. Aline was a “firecracker” who marched to the beat of her own drum. Mama absolutely LOVED people having never met a stranger, and she loved to talk to anyone who would listen or even if they didn’t want to listen, she would talk anyway. Mama made sure if you came to her house you were fed, hungry or not. She enjoyed shopping, eating out, cooking for and hosting people in her home. Mama saw the best in people and seemed oblivious that people could do anything bad. She touched many people’s lives and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Some of her grandchildren’s fondest memories are being gathered in her living room at Christmas, with barely room to move, passing out gifts, singing Christmas songs, reading the story of Jesus’s birth and having wrapping paper fights with all the family.
Aline is survived by her two daughters, Joyce Faye Moss (Jack) and Kimberly Dawn Mills (Randy); her brother, Bill Outlaw (Doris); her sister Bessie Short (Claude); her daughters-in-law, Faye Overman & Jean Crabtree; her sister-in-Law, Jean Outlaw; her grandchildren, Dennis Overman (Jessica), Todd Bone, Rhonda Joines, Jeff Bone (Rhonda), Jamie Overman (KO), Chris Moss, Kristin Causeway (Will), Michael Mills (Maddie) and Brandon Mills (Marina); her great grandchildren, Shane (Scotti), Desaray, Danielle, Chase (Angelique), Casey (Courtney), Melody, Kayla, Lyndy, Sarah, Yahnathan, Maegan (Eric), Jennifer (Jeff), Christine (John), Chrislyn, Garrett, Richard & William; and her great-great grandchildren, Bryson, Ryanne, Aleena, Brian, Eloise, Miles, Cora, Taylor and Scottie; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service to celebrate Aline’s life will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Keith Pittman and Rev. Gina House officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
The family would like to say a special thanks to the staff at Rocky Mount Rehab who helped care for her the last 5 ½ years.

I’m Rhonda Overman, Aline’s oldest granddaughter. My grandma was/is the sweetest woman of God! She loved Jesus like no other. She loved her family very much and even came to love her extended family at Chick-fil-A. She had a very strong work ethic. She just wanted EVERYONE to know Jesus as Savior
Rhonda, Dennis, and family, my thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. I enjoyed Ms. Aline anytime I went to Chick-fil-a. She always had a striped mint for everyone. I enjoyed taking care of her when she came to the doctor also. She was a very special lady. May God give you all the peace, comfort, and strength to continue on without her earthly presence. She will be with you wherever you go forever in your heart. May your memories give you peace and great comfort which will give you strength.
God bless each of you.

My favorite memory would probably be the summer before 7th grade, I spent most of my time there because of her knee surgery and mama was helping. I remember the stories and her always talking about Jesus.
I remember meeting her at The West Mount Emmanuel Holiness Church in 1980. She was a sweet Lady. And chick filet my condolences to the family you’re will be in my prayers 🙏🙏🙏
Bill, Jeremy, Bonnie, and family, I am very sorry to hear about Ms. Aline’s passing. She took great care of me at Chick-fil-a any time I went in there. She always had a mint for me and I enjoyed talking to her very much. My prayers are with you all during this very difficult time. If there is anything I can do, please let me know. My prayers are with you all always. I chose the sunshine because she was as bright as the sun shines on a nice spring or summer day. She could brighten my day regardless of what was going on. I will certainly miss her.
Please accept our most heartfelt sympathies for your loss… Our thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.
Next to my Mama, Aline was undoubtedly the most loving, fun loving and caring woman that I know. She was the best Mother-in-law that anyone could ask for. She loved God and her family and would talk about both to anyone and everyone. Will be missed. Rest in Peace, sweet lady.
Kim,

I can remember one of the many times I spent the night with grandma. At bedtime I heard her praying and it was such a sweet but powerful prayer. It changed my soul and she taught me how to pray without even knowing it. I will surely miss my grandma, but it is of great consolation to me that she’s been welcomed into the arms of Jesus!
Aline is looking down from Heaven on all us touched by her being. Her wings will carry her until we meet with her again. Her love and warmth was shared by all around her, she let you know it too. Truly God’s gift to everyone she greeted. Her love and smile was what she will be remembered for through Faye and Kim and all her family. She was and always will be the one of kind that God gifted the world with. Walk your way on His golden path and fly high with Your Wings that you earned on this Earth. Your memory will be in every sun filled day we experience while here on this earth. Thank you God for the gift you shared through this wonderful Lady. May your memories make you strong with the presence of the love she bestowed on each of us. God speed to you. Until we meet again.Love you Faye, your friend Bonnie Melton.
